Daniel was born on May 27, 1848 in Leimbach, Sachsen-Meiningen, Germany. He was baptized in the Evangelical Church in Leimbach with Daniel Fischer as his Godfather. He emigrated from Germany, leaving the Port of Bremen with his mother and seven other family members and landed in the Port of New York on May 17, 1860. He married Katie Steffen on June 4, 1886, in cole Camp, MO. and they had three children. He worked as a tinner. They moved to Jefferson City, MO between 1900 and 1910.
A newspaper article appeared in the Jeffrson City Democrat Tribune of August 22, 1911, page 1, column 1 headed "POISON Kills Daniel Kieselbach-Took a Dose of Rough on Rats". It seems Daniel appeared several times at the police station after he took the poison and told friends that he was ill and wanted a physician. When examined by a physician, Dr. Hill, the doctor fouind a package in Daniel''s pocket that contained the rat poisoning. He pumped the poison from Daniel''s body and ordered he be taken to the hospital, where he died four hours later. Daniel was 63 years of age. (In a phone conversation with Herb Simon on February 12, 2000, Herb stated that on the day of his death, Daniel had an argument with his wife and to spite her he had taken some rat poison thinking it wouldn''t seriously hurt him. He had been drinking and when he showed up at the police station, knowing that he had been drinking, at first the police didn''t beleive him. It wan''t until he had revisited the police station later that they took him sriously and called for the doctor , but it was too late to save him.
